Youth Highlight: Anthony Mickel

A very important part of our youth group is a person named Anthony Mickel. He is always vibrant and pumping up our youth group. He plays bass on the worship team and is a true rocker. He brings life to the youth group every sunday night.

His hobbies all revolve around music. He plays bass, drums, and piano. He also sings and is learning guitar (maybe to become a one man band?). He loves to worship musically no matter where he is.

When asked what makes him unique he answered, that unlike most teenage boys, he has chosen to follow Christ. He not only has chosen to follow him, but he shows it in every aspect of his life, even around his non-Christian friends. Which can be a very difficult task for a lot of teenagers. He also added that following Christ has helped him grow a lot and that only Christ can make him the man he is. He is also never afraid  of being awkward around other people. He is just going to be his true self (also a very impressive feat).

The following is his testimony of how he came to know Christ:

“When I was younger I was in a really dark place. I had a girlfriend whom when I broke up with her, told everyone that I did it so I could date a guy. So kids called me gay and made fun of me and tore me down. Then from my emotional state, I started gaining weight and I got fat and I was made fun of for that also. Then one night I cried out to God and asked him, “Why am I treated this way? Why am i here? Why am I living?”

He spoke back to me and he said. “Anthony, I love you, and to me you are beautiful. Why does it matter what these kids say about you? If i love you, then why do you care? That night I started following Christ with all my heart.

Harvest Party

Last Sunday, FUEL had an awesome Harvest Party! There was candy, games, and some awesome costumes. All of that made it a fun night at FUEL.

One of the funner games was Strobe Light Tag. This was super fun, because you couldn’t hardly see where anybody was. We also played Limbo. This was fun! Heather Hollis won the game of Limbo due to her flexibility and height advantage.

There was also some crazy costumes. Blake and Brady both dressed up as girls which was absolutely hilarious. Joey dressed up as Braveheart and his costume was super realistic. Matt dressed up as Sarah Jessica Parker, which was also incredibly funny, but the overall best costume, voted on by the students of youth was Brittney and her ladybug costume. Some other neat costumes were an iPod, Pocahontas, and a bumblebee. We also had three different pirates.

It was a great night for FUEL!

Getting to Know You: Tia and Angelina

We are now implementing a new section in The Fuel Line and Fuel Gauge. Its called ‘Getting to Know You’ and it highlights new kids that come to youth group.

This past week we had two new kids come to youth: Tia and Angelina. They are both 15 year old sophomores at Thomas Jefferson High School.

Tia is involved in cheer, choir and dance. As well as being involved in many sports such as soccer, volleyball, and basketball. She also enjoys cooking and loves school.

Angelina is also involved in cheer and dance. She also enjoys swimming, cross country and eating (possibly food that Tia cooked).

Lets welcome these two ladies into the youth group and hope they come back for the fall kickoff on September 27th.

Youth Highlight:Taylor Hart

One of our students here at Fuel Youth Group is Taylor Hart. He is 14 years old and just started his freshman year of high school at Aviation High School. He mainly chose that school cause he is very interested in becoming an engineer when he is older. He is a genius when it comes to mathematics and always gets straight A’s. Taylor is very interested in soccer and is a star defender for HPFC Heat Red ’94. He is always on the computer, either on myspace or facebook, and loves to play Restaurant City, Quantam of Solace, and FIFA. He has been going to RCC since March of 2007 and got into the youth group because of the 2007 winter retreat.  He has been coming to Fuel ever since. He really enjoys it and loves the games that we play at youth. He also loves going to Creationfest and can’t wait for next year. He is going to the Skillet/Hawk Nelson concert on Halloween and is super excited for that. Overall, he is a great part of our youth group.

Youth Highlight: Snohomish Bigfoot Tournament

This past weekend I played in the Snohomish Bigfoot Tournament. My team HPFC, coached by Don Preiss, went into it expecting to do all right, but came out with a lot more. Despite the long drive to Snohomish daily my team seemed ready to play. We started off the first game on Thursday by playing South Hill Revolution. We topped them 2-1 in a thrilling game. Than the next morning we all made the long drive again for our 8:00 game. Even though we had to wake up at 5:00 our team came ready to play and won their second game 1-0 over NW United. We had a very good chance to move on to the championship if we tied or won the third game of the group stage. We played the next afternoon against NW Nationals. We took it to them and ended up winning 2-0. We had finally made a championship in a tournament. This was the first time for the team. We were all excited but knew we had a tough opponent ahead of us, GRFC. This was a do or die match, loser goes home, winner is the champion. It was a very rough game from the start and GRFC almost scored early but on the counter attack we scored and took the lead 1-0. The score would remain the same for the rest of the game and we took home our championship medals. It was quite thrilling to go undefeated in the Bigfoot Tournament.

Summing Up High School Home Group

Last Wednesday was the last night of Home Group. After the ten week study of Ephesians, we all took away something important from it. For some of us this was our first group bible study, and it was very interesting. I think we all liked the conversation style and casualness of home group, and it helped us feel more relaxed and it was easy to learn. We had about 8 students and 3 leaders show up a night on average.

Over the ten weeks we learned about Paul and Ephesus (1:1-23), predestination (2:1-10), the inclusion of Gentiles (2:11-3:13), prayer (3:14-21), unity in Christ (4:1-10), Christian maturity (4:11-16), desensitization (4:17-32), imitating God (5:1-20), submission (5:21-6:9), and the armor of God (6:10-24). On any given night everybody walked away with something to do and something to think about for the week ahead. This I thought was a good way to get people to think about the message throughout the week, and even though people didn’t always do the homework, they still were thinking about what was spoken.

After every home group we would watch Wipeout. This TV show is awesome! If you ever want to see Joey rolling on the ground and laughing his head off, turn on Wipeout. We all had a great time over the course of the ten weeks and can’t wait until fall.

604 Dollars?!

I was sitting at home, chilling out and watching tv, when I almost had a heart attack.

My mom had just come home and I had heard her going through the mail. Soon she called out, “604 dollars of internet usage!”

“What?!!!” I yelled. “I thought Taylor had set up the unlimited family internet.” I was freaking out. I didn’t have 604 dollars to spend. What was I going to do?

My mom called out, “Don’t worry, I am calling AT&T.”

I listened to her talk to AT&T. It didn’t sound like it was going very well, but soon enough the phone clicks off. I was worried, biting my lips, hoping that I didn’t have to cough up 604 dollars.

My mom called out once again,”Ok they are giving us a 604 dollar credit. You owe your normal 15 dollars.”

Whoo. I let out a sigh of relief. I almost had a heart attack, but its all over now. It was just a slip up on the AT&T’s part. Ok I was fine. Everything was all right.
